Our very own Janice Anschuetz has been honored with a preserve named after her. What a wonderful well-deserved honor, since Janice has worked so hard to bring the natural world to our community. Thank you, Janice, for a job well done.

Just north west of River St. - The Janice Anschuetz Highland Preserve - will have a grand opening on Saturday September 14th at 10am with overflow parking for this event at the cemetery with shuttle service. The first 1/2 mile of the trail will be handicap accessible. A nature walk will be provided after the ceremony. Once this the preserve is open, it will eventually connect with the Superior Greenway on Prospect which will provide about 10 miles of preserve trails!

Please do not enter it before then because construction is still going on. Information about the original European settler of the land now encompassing the preserve, William Lambie, can be found on page 12 of the Summer 2024 Issue of the Ypsilanti Historical Society publication called the Gleanings. On page 28 of the same issue, you can read a poem written by William Lambie titled "Ypsilanti on the Huron." https://archive.org/details/ypsilanti_gleanings_2024.2x I was one of the founding members of the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission and served for over 47 years before retiring myself and together we established the natural areas preservation program as well as the B2B trail, many parks, a recreation center and a lot of fun for all ages. The naming of this preserve was a surprise present by the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners. Janice Anschuetz
