Six organizations rethinking women’s health

The right care at the right time can change a woman’s life. But at the very moments women need the health system to deliver, it often fails them. Our founder, Melinda French Gates, has committed more than $600 million to women’s health over the last two years to build a future where every woman can get the care she needs. We’re highlighting six of our partners who are stepping up to fill the gaps from the reproductive years to midlife.

Like the organization that recognized too many new moms were navigating postpartum depression and anxiety alone and started sending nurses to visit them at home. Or the one that looked at the lack of doctors who were well-versed in menopause care and began offering clinicians dedicated training and resources. Or the one that saw a dearth of medical research into how diseases affect women and put teams of experts on the case.

Half of the years women spend in poor health can come when they are often at the peak of their careers or raising their families. At the times when there are so many expectations placed on women, there are far too few expectations for what the health system should deliver for them. It’s time for that to change.

There is a better future for women’s health care on the horizon, and these organizations are showing us how to get there.
