Local prep standout expected to be drafted in the top five
Detroit, MI — April 15, 2024 — Detroit Edison Public School Academy (DEPSA) proudly announces that former student Rickea Jackson will participate in the WNBA Draft 2024. In honor of her achievements on and off the court, DEPSA is holding a WNBA draft night watch party at DEPSA.
The actual draft event, presented by State Farm, will take place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in New York City. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will announce the draft picks live on ESPN, with exclusive coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Jackson, a standout athlete, has an impressive basketball journey. As a Michigan female Ms. Basketball, she made her mark on the court during her high school years at DEPSA. Her talent and dedication led her to play college basketball first at Mississippi State University and later complete her collegiate career at Tennessee, where she shattered scoring records. With her exceptional skills, Rickea is expected to be drafted in the top 5, making her a rising star in the WNBA.
The local draft party event will also be celebrated at Detroit Edison Public School Academy. Fans, friends, and supporters are invited to join us at the DEPSA gymnasium beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Witness history as Rickea Jackson takes the next step in her basketball journey.
